Caregiver/PCA Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist patients in the following areas.
Personal care functions including:
1. Bathing (bed, tub, shower or sponge bath) and Skin Care
2. Toileting (bedpan, urinal, commode and/or toilet)
3. Grooming (shampoo, nail care and shaving)
4. Oral Hygiene (denture care)
5. Assist with dressing and undressing
6. Assists with feeding and serving residents as needed
7. Measure and record intake of fluids as needed
8. Assists in turning and positioning of residents.
9. Demonstrates proper transfer techniques.
10. Properly distributes medication to correct residents during correct window of time
11. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge for safe use of medical equipment
12. Helps keep residents’ room clean and supplied
13. Make and change resident beds
14. Apply simple non-sterile dressings
15. Answer residents calls and takes appropriate action
16. Measures and records vital signs/weights and immediately report any changes in client’s condition or incidents to the Resident Manager
17. Maintains confidentiality in relation to all clients, healthcare staff and documentation
19. Appearance is professional and complies with dress code
20. Maintains a cooperative manner towards client/family and all members of team
21. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Compassionate, mature, sympathetic and professional at all times
• Good organization and communication skills
• Ability to read, write and understand and carry out directions
• Candidate will have the physical ability to perform job-rated duties, which may require lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing and pulling
• Ideal candidate will have care-giving experience and or have a PCA certification
Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Current TB or PPd test
• Must be willing to undergo a background check through State of Alaska
