Job Description


Provide a comprehensive Child Development Preschool for children between the ages of 3-5 in partnership with families and community members. Ensure overall center, classroom and family partnerships activities are in compliance with the State of Alaska licensing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring day-to-day center operations;
  • Supervise Teacher Assistants and/or volunteers to ensure program and classroom instructions meet the State of Alaska licensing guidelines and requirements;
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy facility in accordance with I.H.S. and the State of Alaska licensing;
  • Plan and implement appropriate classroom curriculum and schedule activities;
  • Welcome and involve community members and families in Big Bay Beginnings programs;
  • Plan and implement appropriate classroom curriculum and schedule activities;
  • Maintain all documentation as required by the State of Alaska licensing (e.g.:lesson plans, individualizing, attendance records, family visit reports, fire drill logs, etc.);
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and records for families and cruldren enrolled in the program;
  • Recruit and enroll children in the program;

• Participate instaff meetings,training and development of program; and

  • Ensure compliance with performance standards program wide.


• Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field is preferred/or;

• Minimum of 12 ECU Credits in Early Childhood Development

  • Credentials in Early Childhood Development (CDA) and/or completed within six months of hire;

• Three years' experience with daycare/preschool programs or similar position;

  • Any combination of experience and education demonstrating ability to fulfill responsibilities of the position may be substituted;

Big Bay Beginnings Job Description

  • Experience working with preschool children and community resources;
  • CPR and First Aid training within six months of hire;
  • Must provide three references and pass a background investigation; and
  • Knowledge and ability to use standard desktop PC's and standard MS software such as Word and Excel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to maintain accountability for work performance ;
  • Ability to respect the family as the child's first teacher;
  • Knowledge of providing age appropriate care and discipline to pre-school age children;
  • Ability to communicate in writing;

        • Ability to complete tasks with a high level of accuracy; and

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in writing and orally.

This is a full time 40 hours per week position with benefits, based in Seward, Alaska. Days of operation are Monday through Friday. Big Bay Beginnings maintains a drug free and non­ smoking environment. Finger printing, back ground checks, annual physical exams and TB screenings are required. 8% match on 401K, 4 weeks vacation the first year, and medical!
