Founded in 1980, Mat-Su Senior Services provides services to the growing senior population in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. The Mat-Su Senior Services mission is to help seniors live healthy, independent lives for as long as they can, in the place of their choosing, by providing them with comprehensive senior services such as transportation, meals, chore, and respite services.
The organization is led by a 9-member Board of Directors and currently has 41staff members. The combined operating budget is approximately $3M, with primary sources of revenue coming from grants, contributions, and program service revenue. Other funding is also received from state and federal sources.

Mat-Su Senior Services seeks an experienced and highly skilled Chief Financial Officer to support all areas of the organization, including financial management, grants and contract management, budgeting, auditing, and internal controls. The candidate will possess strong technical, operational, and leadership skills. The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and directly supervises 2 staff positions. The CFO is responsible for a $3M combined annual operating budget for Mat-Su Senior Services and a Limited Partnership for senior housing.
Leadership and Administration
Help develop and execute multi-year financial strategies that advance Mat-Su Senior Services’ priorities and impact.
Promote administrative excellence, leadership, creativity, collaboration, transparency, and accountability throughout Mat-Su Senior Services.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate finance and operations staff members.
Build and maintain strong relationships with the MSSS’ network of partner organizations including local, state, and federal funding organizations.
Work closely with the MSSS Chief Executive Officer and other organization leaders to strengthen overall organizational capacity and impact.
Financial Strategy and Management
Prepare financial reports for Mat-Su Senior Services and Chugach Colony Estates, LP in accordance with GAAP and grant funding requirements in a timely manner; present financial statements monthly and annually to the MSSS Board of Directors and Chugach Estates partners; provide financial reporting materials for granting organizations and other funders; and oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting.
Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CEO and Board Finance Committee; set budgetary goals and objectives; and keep the CEO abreast of the organization's financial status.
Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting to support operational requirements.
Grant and Contract Management
Assist in grants/contracts management and monitoring, including helping design program budgets and providing decision support to management, staff, and all agency and non-agency contracts.
Forecast and track grant spending and ensure all grants are spent appropriately, and requirements and regulations are fulfilled satisfactorily.
Ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is maintained.
Oversee Medicaid billing and record keeping.
Auditing, Tax, Compliance, and Reporting
Coordinate and lead the annual financial audit for a non-profit and a limited partnership and any other state, federal, or special audits; coordinate with external auditors; and assess any changes necessary.
Establish, implement, and update all necessary business policies and accounting practices to ensure compliance with local, state, federal governmental agencies as well as granting foundations.
Oversee administration of all payroll.
Oversee processing of all revenues, receivables, and payables.
Oversee compliance with all local, state, and federal tax payments and reporting.
Identify and manage business risks and assist with financial aspects of insurance contracts.
Manage assets, including overseeing cash and investment accounts and strategies.
Supervise filing systems for all financial records and oversee compliance with retention requirements.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or public administration, and a minimum of 4 years of broad experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and managerial accounting.
Supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to develop and lead others.
Successful experience managing a budget of at least $2M.
A track record in local, state, and federal grants and contract management.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of staff, agencies, and government offices.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure work is completed in a timely and productive manner.
