Description:

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to provide desktop and on-site construction monitoring support for thermal energy projects located in and around South Carolina. This role serves as an independent advisor to clients throughout project execution — from permitting and engineering through construction, commissioning, and commercial operation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in construction management; prior consulting experience strongly preferred
  • Valid driver's license required; CMP certification preferred
  • Prior experience preparing and reviewing project schedules using Primavera, MS Project, or equivalent tools
  • Experience developing project cost estimates for comparison to bids
  • Strong communication skills — verbal, written, and presentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Prior team leadership experience highly desired

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in monthly project progress meetings covering permitting, engineering, procurement, construction, interconnection, commissioning, and testing activities
  • Conduct periodic site visits (typically monthly or quarterly) to verify construction progress, quality of work, and milestone schedule compliance
  • Review and evaluate contractor work plans, scheduling systems, resource allocation, and construction methodologies for compliance with design and contractual obligations
  • Assess quality control programs, field inspection reports, and construction documentation; consult with owners and contractors ahead of major inspections and critical milestones
  • Monitor contractor start-up and commissioning plans through execution to ensure readiness for commercial operation
  • Oversee recruitment, staffing, and training of O&M personnel; review O&M programs, manuals, and procedures for operational readiness
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets; identify, analyze, and report material variances
  • Review, evaluate, and approve change orders in accordance with financing and contractual requirements; track status of all pending and approved changes
  • Verify milestone completion and issue required Independent Engineer progress reports and certifications
  • Issue certifications confirming mechanical completion, readiness for start-up, and authorization to commence performance testing
  • Perform independent technical review of detailed performance test procedures — covering thermal performance, capacity, reliability, emissions compliance, and black-start capability where applicable
  • Witness and oversee performance testing activities, including instrumentation verification, data collection, and operational protocols
  • Review final performance test reports to confirm accuracy of calculations and compliance with contractual guarantees

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position operating on a flexible hybrid schedule. Travel is required for site visits and client meetings. On-site work is performed in industrial environments and requires appropriate protective clothing and equipment. Extended hours may be required periodically based on project schedules and client needs.
