The Alaska Court System is accepting applications from compassionate individuals interested in becoming Full-Time Court Visitors in Anchorage, Palmer, or Juneau, or a Part-Time Court Visitor in Kenai. Experience working with rural Alaska communities or knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities of rural Alaska is preferred.
The starting hourly rate of pay is $45.00. After one year of successful employment, the rate of pay may increase to $50.00 per hour. Scheduled hours will vary by caseload.
These are full-time contracted positions with no benefits.
The ACS is required by Alaska Statute to provide court visitor services. The ACS contracts with individuals across the state to provide these services. A Court Visitor is appointed when a petition for adult guardianship or conservatorship is filed to investigate the involved person and their circumstances, and recommend to the court an appropriate resolution. Court Visitors are reappointed every three (3) years to review and report to the court regarding existing guardianship and conservatorship cases. Court Visitors also participate in psychotropic medication proceedings in psychiatric facilities, and offer an opinion as to whether the patient has capacity to give or withhold informed consent for medications. There is a mandatory 10-hour training that is reimbursed at the ACS training rate, however, given that Court Visitors are contractors, there is some unreimbursed training and administrative tasks. A valid driver's license is required. Mileage reimbursement and parking provided if needed.
