Criminal Justice Technician 2

The Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Criminal Justice Technician 2 to join the Public Information Request and Research Unit's (PIRRU) Mobile Audio and Video Recording Equipment Team (MAVR). Your responsibilities will include reviewing and redacting body-worn camera and dashcam footage, photos, and 911 audio to fulfill public information requests while protecting the rights of individuals and ensuring department compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and court opinions.

As a member of DPS and the MAVR team, you will be instrumental in ensuring this mission is met by adhering to the Alaska Public Records Act, and other applicable statutes, regulations, and court decisions. You will contribute directly to the department's goals of increasing transparency and trust with the public and supporting public safety across the state of Alaska.

This position is in the Alaska Bureau of Investigation building at 5500 E Tudor Rd, Anchorage. The Chugach Mountains provide the backdrop for the building and ample parking is available, public transportation drop points are located directly in front of the building and paved trails are located next to the building.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of training under a formally established Criminal Justice Technician 1-2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska; OR Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

• Integrity/Honesty: Contributes to maintaining the integrity of the organization; displays high standards of ethical conduct and understands the impact of violating these standards on an organization, self, and others; is trustworthy.
• Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.

Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of education and/or paraprofessional or professional experience or service in criminal justice, juvenile justice, probation, parole, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, court, legal services, law office, social services, social sciences, or public assistance programs or functions.

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.

The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
