The Human Resource Technician 2 for Absence Management processes Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Alaska Family Leave Act (AFLA) for State of Alaska employees. This includes evaluating medical documentation, reviewing payroll and personnel documents for compliance with collective bargaining agreements, Personnel Rules, departmental policies and procedures, and Federal regulations. This position interacts with employees across the state, as well as the Employee Relations team and Payroll.
The Absence Management team within Employee Relations ensures that employees fully understand and receive their FMLA/AFLA entitlements and job protections. By strategically managing leave benefits and educating employees throughout the process, we reduce unnecessary absences and support a healthy, productive workplace that ultimately benefits all Alaskans. The incumbent plays a key role in this effort by working directly with employees, assessing and processing FMLA/AFLA documentation, and providing clear guidance on their leave rights.

The Employee Relations Program operates from two locations: The Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage and the State Office Building in Juneau. From Juneau, the Gastineau Channel provides a picturesque backdrop.
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Six months of entry technical level experience in human resource work equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience.
One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours from an accredited college or university equals one year) in any field.
