Chambers Judicial Assistant 2

The Court of Appeals is accepting applications for a Chambers Judicial Assistant 2 (salary range 13). This position will provide administrative support to Judge Tracey Wollenberg. Responsibilities include coordinating case management, preparing and editing opinions and court orders, maintaining chambers case files, monitoring deadlines, and helping ensure timely case resolution. The incumbent also oversees the workflow of two law clerks by assigning projects, monitoring progress, and providing guidance throughout the drafting process.

In addition to legal and case management responsibilities, this position manages a variety of administrative functions, including payroll and travel documentation, maintaining chambers reference materials and records, coordinating bi-weekly conference agendas, tracking judicial calendars, and processing final opinions for issuance. Success in this role requires exceptional organization, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality while collaborating with judges, law clerks, and court staff. Cross-training and providing support to other judicial chambers as needed is an expected part of this position.

The pay for this position is $30.88 minimum hourly. Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with substantial work experience may receive consideration for an advance step placement. This position is in the partially exempt service; the incumbent serves "at-will" to the hiring authority.

An ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to establish priorities, perform assignments independently, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Substantial experience editing and proofreading professional documents.
  • Ability to monitor the work and deadlines of judicial law clerks.
  • Experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate complex information about policies and procedures.
  • Experience maintaining office files and/or records systems.
  • Ability to handle with courtesy and tact a wide variety of court system contacts, in writing and in person.

The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.
