We're looking forward to hearing from you!Position PurposePacific Northern Academy is a private school located in South Anchorage. We are a Preschool – 8th grade school with around 140 students. We're a supportive team that works closely together to provide an outstanding school experience, and our Preschool Program Assistant Teachers play a vital role in supporting the success of the school. Teachers and Assistant Teachers work together as a team to ensure the safety, social-emotional and academic development of the students. Our classrooms have students from 3 to 5 years old.Essential Job FunctionsAssistant Teachers are responsible for providing enrichment, supervision, and care to students during the school day. Duties will include:Implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum set by the classroom teachers and PNASupporting the social and emotional development of students, and maintaining an emotionally safe environmentHelping students build independenceApply firm, yet fair disciplinePlanning and following the daily activity scheduleFacilitating developmentally-appropriate activitiesMaintaining a positive and professional relationship with parents, staff and studentsActively monitor and engage with students during free play timeActively supervise the classroom, outdoor playground, gymMonitor lunches and morning and afternoon snackPrepare and clean up of activities, classrooms as directedOther Job DutiesMake children and parents feel welcomeBe an enthusiastic member of the PNA teamResponsible for opening or closing tasks dailyCompleting necessary documentation including attendance sheets, medical forms, accident and incident reportsLight administrative duties such as filing, copying, documentationThis position reports directly to the Preschool Program Director. This position is often the first line of contact with parents, so a high level of interpersonal skills is valued.QualificationsMeet the minimum age requirement of 18 as dictated by Municipality of Anchorage Child Care Licensing codesExperience working with children in an education or child care capacityCompletion of high school or equivalent or will do so in the near futureMust successfully pass a background checkDemonstrate genuine concern, kindness, and respect to all staff, parents and childrenDisplay a high level of integrity, responsibility, and reliabilityBe a self-starter, able to work independently as well as effectively contribute as part of a teamPhysical Aspects of the JobWork environment is typical of a school environment however this position involves daily exposure to weather elements.
