Qualified applicants who do not yet meet all MMS II requirements are encouraged to apply and may be considered for on‑the‑job training.Position Summary Materials Management Specialists (MMS's) primarily handle incoming and outgoing mail and packages, reproduce copies of printed materials, process repair and out‑of‑box failures, receive, stock, manage inventory levels, and issue items to customers. These duties are performed in office, warehouse, and outdoor storage yard environments.Essential Functions May perform duties of the MMS I per Supervisor direction.Receive materials delivered from carriers and vendors.Check delivered material for overages, shortages, and damages.Enter received material into the computerized inventory system.Package and ship materials to vendors and other Alaska Communications facilities using various air or surface carriers, ensuring shipments are packaged correctly to meet safety and Hazmat requirements.Stock bins, pallets, or other areas with materials.Accurately issue or transfer materials to crews, other warehouses, retail stores, and various departments using a computerized inventory system, ensuring items are charged to the correct department.Make deliveries or pick‑up materials from job sites and other locations using vehicles ranging from vans to flat‑bed trucks.Notify Supervisor of incorrect, inconsistent, or damaged items in the warehouse inventory and make adjustments as instructed.Operate material‑handling equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, flat‑bed trucks, and trucks with lift gates.Perform minor maintenance on hand tools and equipment as needed.Sort and identify surplus or returned material for inventory as necessary.Train others in MMS classification within the department, per Supervisor direction.Sort, identify, and classify materials for surplus, credit, recycling, or scrapping, and ship consignment materials to vendors.Process adjustment transactions related to surplus inventory in the LEC and Wireless computerized inventory systems.Work with the Supervisor to assign daily work duties of the MMS II and coordinate activity between warehouses, prioritizing work to achieve maximum results with prudent use of resources.Ensure workgroup production meets the company's and department's standards for accuracy and timeliness and complies with policies, procedures, and practices.Purchase miscellaneous equipment, parts, or tools as required, using a procurement card and charging to the appropriate cost center.Conduct yearly physical inventory counts of warehouse materials, prepare inventory reports, and resolve inventory variances.Travel to other warehouses for vacation coverage and annual inventories.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree and one (1) year of general office experience, or high school diploma or GED plus three (3) years of general office experience.Extensive knowledge of warehouse procedures and telephone equipment gained through at least three (3) years of warehouse experience operating under a computerized inventory control system.Valid Certificate of Medical Examination (Medical Card) and pass a Drug and Alcohol Background check.Valid Alaska driver's license.Certifications and Licenses Forklift training and certification within 90 days of attaining the MMS II classification.IATA and CFR Part 49 Hazardous Materials certification within 180 days of attaining the MMS II classification.Additional Requirements Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a repetitive basis up to a height of 5 feet.Pass a keyboarding test at 30 words per minute (tests completed within the past 12 months are accepted).Demonstrated ability to maneuver 2,500‑pound pallets using a manual pallet jack.Internally serving MMS's must have proven keyboarding and need not provide test results.External applicants must successfully pass a pre‑employment suitability assessment and drug test.Experience using personal computers, including word processing and spreadsheet software, and various applications.This role does not offer remote work for international applicants and does not sponsor work visas.#J-18808-Ljbffr
