Fisheries/Wildlife Biologist

The Fisheries/Wildlife Biologist supports and leads field- and office-based biological resource and environmental compliance activities. This role focuses on fisheries and/or wildlife investigations, regulatory permitting, and impact assessment for projects throughout Alaska. The successful candidate will apply advanced technical expertise to design and implement biological studies, analyze and interpret data, and prepare high-quality technical reports and permit documentation.

Responsibilities may include leading field teams, coordinating with state and federal regulatory agencies, supporting clients through permitting and compliance processes, and contributing to project planning and execution. This position may also involve mentoring junior staff, providing technical review of work products, and serving as a subject matter resource for biological and regulatory issues.

  • Lead and support biological studies, including the planning and execution of field surveys and data collection focused on fisheries, wildlife, and associated habitats using a variety of methods and techniques
  • Conduct literature reviews; compile, analyze, and synthesize biological resource data; and prepare technical reports, study plans, and analytical memoranda
  • Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation for environmental and regulatory compliance
  • Support preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and participation in Endangered Species Act (ESA) and/or Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) consultations, as well as Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) permitting processes
  • Coordinate and communicate with regulatory agencies such as the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), North Slope Borough (NSB), and other governing entities
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for clients and regulatory stakeholders
  • Manage tasks and schedules; oversee and coordinate subcontractors, laboratories, and field logistics
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needs require.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, fisheries science, wildlife science, or a related field
  • Five or more years of relevant professional experience in fisheries, wildlife, or biological resource consulting; advanced education may be substituted for years of experience
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: fisheries, aquatic resources, marine mammals, terrestrial wildlife, marine or coastal sciences
  • Demonstrated experience with field data collection, biological data analysis, and technical writing for regulatory, scientific, or permitting audiences
  • Willingness and ability to spend up to two weeks at a time in remote field locations, often accessed by helicopter, bush plane, boat, or snow travel vehicles
  • Experience working in rugged and cold weather environments, with a strong safety first mindset
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and professional communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Comfortable balancing office based analysis, report preparation, client interaction, and fieldwork
  • Commitment to professional growth, technical excellence, and environmental stewardship
  • Flexibility and adaptability when working in remote or logistically complex environments
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance in technical deliverables
  • Driver License required.
