Position Summary

Alaska Communications is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel to join our legal team in Anchorage, Alaska. The Corporate Counsel will provide practical, business‑focused legal advice on a wide range of corporate matters, with a primary emphasis on procurement, commercial contracting, and transactional support for Alaska Communications' expansion of fiber and fixed wireless infrastructure across the state. The ideal candidate is a collaborative attorney with strong contract negotiation skills and experience working with both government and commercial counterparties.

Work Schedule

Full time, but open to alternative or flexible arrangements. Eligible for part-time teleworking.

Compensation

$117,046.00 - $160,007.00

Essential Functions
  • Provide strategic legal guidance across business operations and corporate initiatives, balancing legal risk with business objectives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and procurement agreements supporting network expansion and operations (e.g., master services agreements, statements of work, supplier/vendor agreements, construction and professional services contracts, NDAs, and related amendments).
  • Support transactions and contracting with both commercial and government counterparties, including municipalities, state and federal entities, prime contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Advise on government contracting matters, including RFP/proposal terms review, required contract clauses and flow-downs, subcontract terms, and coordination of compliance obligations (as applicable).
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to advance fiber and fixed wireless infrastructure initiatives, including issue‑spotting on project delivery, contract performance, and change management (e.g., change orders and scope adjustments).
  • Identify legal risks, recommend mitigation strategies (e.g., insurance/indemnity, limitation of liability, warranties, and dispute resolution), and deliver practical, business‑focused solutions.
  • Support contract management and administration processes, including stakeholder review, approval coordination, and documentation of key terms and decisions.
Competency Statements
  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation – Strong ability to draft, review, and negotiate commercial and procurement agreements with balanced risk allocation.
  • Business Partnership – Practical, solutions‑oriented advisor who can translate legal concepts into clear guidance for non‑legal stakeholders.
  • Government Contracting Acumen – Familiarity with government contracting processes and compliance expectations is strongly preferred.
  • Communication – Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to negotiate effectively and document decisions clearly.
  • Organization & Judgment – Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment in a fast‑paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience Required
Counsel
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Alaska Bar Association.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Significant experience drafting and negotiating commercial and procurement contracts.
Sr. Counsel
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Alaska Bar Association.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Significant experience drafting and negotiating commercial and procurement contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting government contracting, including proposal/RFP review, contract drafting/negotiation, and compliance matters.
  • Regulatory experience in a regulated industry (e.g., utilities, energy, transportation, healthcare, environmental, infrastructure, or government).
  • Infrastructure, construction, or large‑scale procurement contracting experience; telecommunications experience is helpful but not required.
