Responsibilities
- Monitors and controls accounts receivables. Oversees Business Office functions to ensure cash collection goals are met and net revenue is properly stated. Facilitates weekly A/R meetings with the CEO and Business Office Manager to communicate results and monitor weaknesses. Monitors and adjusts relationships between the Business Office, Intake and Utilization Review departments to maximize patient revenue.
- Improves the profitability of the hospital. Continuously monitors costs in all areas, especially staffing relative to patient volume. Monitors payor mix and length of stay to maximize reimbursement. Assists in negotiation of contract terms with third party payers. Prepares pro-forma analyses of new programs and contracts to determine outcomes. Monitors and evaluates the success or failure of implemented programs, including physician arrangements.
- Develops policies and procedures in line with generally accepted accounting principles and corporate guidelines to ensure cash flow, reduce operating costs, and increase revenues.
- Prepares monthly financial statements, financial packages, and other reports/analyses. Performs account analyses, variance analyses, journal entries, and maintains internal controls to reflect monthly operating results accurately.
- Provides required reporting, including reconciliations and account analyses, for the Reimbursement Department, Tax Department and Auditors to aid in report preparation.
- Prepares annual budget in line with UHS standards. Works with management and department heads to review prior results and discuss anticipated changes to highlight future needs and trends. Tailors hospital needs to UHS objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial leadership role in a healthcare setting.
- Minimum education requirement of a bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of hospital financial operations, federal and local tax regulations; familiarity with all business office, accounting, payroll and other administrative operations including processes from registration through discharge.
- Skilled at interpreting financial analysis and performance information; able to prepare schedules and reports using source data and compiling from schedules; proficient with electronic spreadsheets and manipulating data within databases.
- 2% travel required.
