Position Overview

The Roustabout supports the safe and efficient operation of HEX's onshore and offshore facilities in Nikiski, Alaska. Working under the direction of Operators and Supervisors, this role performs general labor, equipment support, and maintenance tasks across production and processing environments. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, physical capability, and the ability to work in dynamic outdoor and offshore conditions.

Core Responsibilities (All Roustabouts)

  • Promote and adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures
  • Assist operators in the safe operation of production and processing facilities
  • Perform general labor duties including lifting, carrying, cleaning, and material handling
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and facilities
  • Assist with equipment start-up, shutdown, and basic operational support as directed
  • Participate in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and support safe equipment isolation
  • Work safely in SIMOPS environments alongside operations and contractors
  • Handle and transport tools, equipment, pipes, and materials as required
  • Support routine inspections and basic preventative maintenance activities
  • Follow all permit-to-work systems and safety protocols
  • Participate in emergency response drills and activities
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors

Focus Area: Plant Support (Onshore Facility)

  • Assist with cleaning and basic maintenance of plant equipment, including compressors, vessels, and piping systems
  • Support plant turnaround and maintenance activities (e.g., scaffolding, insulation, housekeeping)
  • Assist with filter changes, lubrication tasks, and general upkeep of processing equipment
  • Help maintain safe access and clear workspaces within the facility
  • Support operators during sampling and minor operational tasks

Focus Area: Offshore / Field Support (Wellhead & Platform)

  • Assist with loading/unloading supplies, equipment, and materials on offshore platforms
  • Support basic wellhead and production equipment maintenance under supervision
  • Help with rigging, slinging, and crane-assisted lifts (as trained and directed)
  • Assist in flowline and production system upkeep, including cleaning and visual inspections
  • Support offshore logistics and deck operations
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of offshore work areas

Note

Roustabouts may be assigned to onshore or offshore environments, with cross-training provided to support both areas.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 0–2 years of experience in oil & gas, construction, industrial labor, or a related field (entry-level candidates acceptable)
  • Previous experience in physically demanding outdoor work environments is an asset
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn oil & gas operations
  • Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety requirements consistently
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting, climbing, and working in harsh weather and offshore conditions
