THE ROLE

We're looking for a seasoned sales professional to join MSI as our Sales & Business Development Lead. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is a unique opportunity to come in as a senior individual contributor and lay the foundation for MSI's sales function — with a clear path toward a management role as the department grows. If you're a self-starter who thrives on building relationships, closing deals, and making your mark in the Alaska market, this one's for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Drive MSI's sales efforts across Alaska, identifying and actively pursuing new business opportunities in building automation, controls, and facility management systems.
  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies for both new construction and retrofit projects, targeting planned service agreements and facility management systems.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers, contractors, and industry partners through regular phone, email, and in-person contact.
  • Meet or exceed sales goals set by the General Manager to support MSI's continued growth and profitability.
  • Monitor your own sales volume, proposal activity, and gross margins to stay on track with monthly and annual business targets.
  • Represent MSI as a trusted leader in building automation and controls to customers, employees, and the broader professional community.
  • Attend trade shows and industry events to promote MSI's products and services — including ASHRAE, BOMA, golf tournaments, and more.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to ensure proposals are competitive and margins are protected.
  • Provide regular, accurate reports on sales activity, pipeline progress, and future market trends to the General Manager.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and support throughout the sales process and beyond.
  • As MSI's sales department grows, take on increasing leadership responsibilities including hiring and developing sales staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5–10 years of progressive sales experience preferably in building systems, controls, or a related industry.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a B2B environment.
  • Ability to connect with people at all levels and communicate effectively on both technical and non-technical topics.
  • Strong financial acumen with a solid understanding of margins, budgets, and cost controls.
  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills with strong organizational ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project).
  • Deep familiarity with the Alaska business environment is a strong plus.
  • Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role is a plus, but not required.
