The California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking to hire two student assistants. Under the general supervision of a Program and Project Supervisor in the Fuels Analysis Branch of the Energy Assessments Division, the students assist in the collection, processing, and analysis of petroleum data. This data is submitted to the Energy Commission to meet state reporting regulations. The unit receives and maintains data on thousands of petroleum facilities in California.
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable) at an accredited college or university. Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students. Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday Friday, between 8 AM 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. This position averages 10 hours per week with flexibility for academic schedules.
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
$17.70 - $28.08 per hour
Students must be in good standing and have a minimum 2.0 GPA or above. Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Excel. Edit with MS Word and use web-based email. Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff to receive instructions.
Skills with Adobe Acrobat and Office 365. Experience entering numerical data. Basic to advanced scripting and coding experience. Knowledge of California's petroleum market. Review data fillings received for completeness. Work with lead staff to identify and resolve potential errors. Organize, process and file received data. Monitor status of data fillings and update staff. Run automated queries of data. Write and troubleshoot basic queries. Assist staff in analyzing data using Excel and other related software. Assist staff with preparing public data request. If necessary, learn additional data analysis software over time.
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work is performed in an remote environment. Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement.
