Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare treatment rooms prior to patient arrival.
  • Identify patients using four identifiers before any procedure or treatment.
  • Review and interpret patient charts throughout the course of radiation therapy.
  • Verify approved radiation prescriptions, treatment plans, MU check documentation, IMRT/VMAT QA, and setup instructions prior to simulation and treatment.
  • Properly position and align patients using immobilization devices according to treatment plans.
  • Monitor patients during treatment and respond appropriately as needed.
  • Accurately document treatment data in the medical record or verification system.
  • Perform procedures confidently and collaboratively when working within a therapist team.
  • Conduct CT simulations as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings as required.
Education, Certification & Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Compliance with mandatory annual education and immunization requirements.
Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of radiation therapy experience in a clinical setting.
Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of current radiation therapy techniques and treatment protocols.
  • Proficient in operating ionizing radiation therapy equipment.
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety practices, including adherence to ALARA principles.
  • Excellent critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective time management and teamwork skills.
  • Strong coordination and communication abilities in a collaborative environment.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to odorous chemicals and biological specimens.
  • Occasional travel between centers within the city may be required.
  • Frequent interaction with patients in various clinical circumstances.
  • Possible exposure to radiation, magnetic fields, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift or push up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing and walking throughout the day.
  • Extended periods of computer use and documentation.
  • Repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs.
  • Ability to assist in moving or positioning patients, with or without assistance.
