Food Prep Helper
The Food Prep Helper works primarily in the kitchen to support the production of food products, assisting in the preparation of food, and cleaning and sanitizing workstations and production equipment.
This position will support daily food service operations at the Alaska Airlines Lounge located inside the Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage, AK. Full-time, part-time and on-call positions available.
Responsibilities
- Reviews recipes and product instructions.
- Determines food quantity needs.
- Use various kitchen tools to prep, measure, mix, cut, season, and store ingredients for cooking and serving.
- Helps prepare hot and cold dishes and store them correctly, applying food safety and temperature guidelines.
- Checks work areas to ensure service standards are met.
- Logs inventory and orders supplies or equipment when necessary.
- Sanitizes equipment and stations according to NMS, client, and regulatory protocols.
- May sample food for quality control.
- May perform basic cooking tasks, such as cooking vegetables or chicken for salads.
- Attend all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
- Reports accidents and injuries promptly.
- Follows all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments. Attends designated training programs (classroom and virtual)
- Prepares serving stations with utensils, entrees, sides, condiments, and other foods.
- Performs general restocking in service zones.
- Serves and restocks food at counters or steam tables (potentially via conveyor belt) and dismantles stations after meals.
- Prepares and serves tea and coffee.
- May restock additional drink stations.
- Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans etc. and places in assigned storage areas in an organized and orderly manner.
- Maintains a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least six (6) months of related food service experience.
- Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certificate contingent upon 30 days of hire.
- The ability to work rotating shifts and varying schedules including holidays, weekends, and extended hours as business dictates.
- Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Ability to pass SIDA Badge test, which includes an assessment of knowledge related to airport security protocols, access control procedures, and safety regulations in secure and restricted areas.
- Ability to obtain an Alaska AOA Badge. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Successfully pass an FBI fingerprint-based background check.
- Complete and pass a TSA Security Threat Assessment (STA).
- Have no outstanding warrants or be able to provide documentation of their resolution.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. and/or 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
