Role Overview

As a TSO, your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating screening technology to identify prohibited items in bags, cargo, and on passengers
  • Conducting various types of screening and searches, which may include pat-downs
  • Managing bins, bags, and property weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Controlling access points in the terminal
  • Providing directions and responding to travelers' inquiries
  • Maintaining focus in a high-stress environment filled with noise and time constraints
  • Adhering to TSA protocols and adapting to changing procedures

Minimum Qualifications (Meet One)

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED/HiSET/TASC)
  • Experience: 1 year of full-time work in the security field, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician. This includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer experience. Part-time work is also recognized proportionally.

Requirements to Be Hired

  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. National
  • At least 18 years old at the time of application
  • Must successfully pass the TSA computer-based test (CBT)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain standing for extended periods

Hiring Process (What to Expect)

If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will need to take the TSA computer-based test (TAB CBT). This timed assessment evaluates your attention to detail, X-ray/object recognition, and reading comprehension skills. Achieving a passing score significantly enhances your chances of being hired.
