About this role: This job posting is for the 2026 Alaska Indigenous Research Program (AKIRP) internship. The AKIRP internship is a paid, full-time, 10-week internship open to Alaska Native and American Indian students and early-career professionals who are interested in health research, Tribal health, public health, and related fields. The internship will be held May 26-July 31 and is fully in-person in Anchorage. Interns will be hosted by ANTHC's Research Services department and will be paired with ongoing research and public health projects at Research Services, at other ANTHC departments, or at partnering organizations according to their interests, experience, and career goals. Interns are paired with 1-3 projects and are assigned a mentor for each project. For interns who do not live in Anchorage, travel and housing at the Alaska Pacific University dorms will be provided at no cost. Summary:

Under general supervision, Intern will perform assignments in support of the department assigned. Interns should perform duties that strengthen their knowledge and experience in the field of their internship as well as prepare them to become full members of the ANTHC workforce. This level of internship is designed for interns that are at or near completion of academic studies in a highly technical or other complex discipline. See Other Requirements below for further definition.

Responsibilities:

Intern works with specific teams performing specialized duties as required by the department. Duties will vary from department to department. Intern will be under frequent supervision to ensure quality work and training benefit and will be responsible for completion of assignments both independently and in coordination with team members. For summer interns much of the work may involve observing and attending lectures and other training events.

Intern work should be meaningful to the intern's development as well as valuable to the organization.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
• Knowledge of computers and comfortable with their use, familiarity with standard Microsoft office suite of applications.
• Knowledge of general office or business etiquette.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

• Skill in managing own work and completing assignments on time.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

An Associate's Degree in a technical or other complex discipline. An equivalent combination work experience, training, and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education. The Recruiting Bulletin may include specific required coursework or grade averages.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-supervisory - Two (2) years of experience in technical or complex field required by Recruiting Bulletin.

An equivalent combination training and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

This level of internship is reserved for interns in highly complex fields in which the labor market requires this level of pay. In order to use this internship level, the senior director of the division and the senior director of human resources must approve the position recruitment.
