Registration Technician I

The Registration Technician is responsible for the accurate check-in process for all un'ina (patient) this includes verification of the following: insurance, demographic, and required Health Systems forms. The Registration Technician's job duties must be completed accurately and timely as the performance directly impacts the revenue received by the Kenaitze Indian Tribe. The Registration Technician is responsible for assisting with all incoming phone calls to Dena'ina Wellness Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Greeting un'ina, verifying their identity, and responsible for completing the check-in process
  • Responsible for accurate completion of the check-in process for all un'ina appointments which includes verification of demographic information to include name, address, contact information, insurance details, and updating any forms as needed
  • Scans photo ID, insurance cards, and other necessary documentation into electronic health record (EHR)
  • Completes pre-registration prior to un'ina appointment to ensure all necessary documentation is in the un'ina chart
  • Verifies insurance coverage for each un'ina and accurately attaches correct insurance to encounter
  • Verifying Family Health Resource (FHR) screening for un'ina (patients) is completed annually
  • Accurately documents all un'ina encounters within the EHR
  • Responsible for scheduling un'ina (patient) appointments
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Working Conditions:

Lifting Requirements: Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

OSHA Categories: Category II - Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.

Equipment and Tools: Computer, Phone, Fax Machine, Photo Copier, Scanner, Electronic Health Record

Travel: Local

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Two (2) years' experience in a medical office setting as a Registration Technician or Scheduler with experience in insurance verification
  • Years of experience in customer service

Preferred: Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

License/Certification: Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire, or, with approval of the hiring manager, sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in lieu of having a driver's license to perform the required duties of the position (If Applicable)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or obtain within ninety (90) days of hire

Special Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse un'ina (patient) populations
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
