District Asset Protection Manager – Safeway

Key Responsibilities

  • Protect customers, associates and company property in a multi-store environment
  • Promote adherence to company policies and procedures; familiarize associates with company rules and regulations.
  • Work closely (partnership) with District Managers and Area staff.
  • Supervise, develop and provide guidance to direct report Asset Protection Specialist(s)
  • Investigate both internal and external issues while working closely with Labor Relations, Human Resources, and Legal.
  • Investigate Human Resource issues, including but not limited to sexual harassment, workplace violence, wage and hour issues, etc.
  • Conduct security investigations and assist in follow up actions.
  • Protect company assets and properties against theft, illegal entry and illegal activities.
  • Report investigation findings to Human Resources and Legal departments for disposition.
  • Present facts at unemployment, EEOC and union hearings as appropriate.
  • Maintain formal and informal channels of communications through the organization.
  • Promote the Exception Reporting System to ensure compliance with goals and objectives.
  • Proactive Asset Protection and shrink reduction initiatives.
  • Federal wage and hour compliance.
  • Act as liaison for the following: Corporate Council, Labor Relations/Human Resources, Government Agencies, Operations personnel, Law Enforcement Agencies, Community groups, Outside Agencies, Judicial Agencies.
  • Perform operational & compliance audits in retail stores, prepare and submit required reports for management review.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of Security programs & systems designed to protect Customers, Associates and Company Assets.
  • Execute Asset Protection training and awareness programs, for Asset Protection, Store associates and other personnel including new-hires.
  • Identify security and risk opportunities in assigned locations and prepare recommendations for improvement
  • Consult associates and management on store security, sanitation safety (where applicable), policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Graduate of the Retail Management Certificate Program preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Asset Protection / Loss Prevention.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of city, county, state statutes, particularly those laws related to but not limited to shoplifting, fraud, financial crimes, property related offenses such as vandalism, malicious mischief, etc.
  • Possess the initiative to help create and nurture a world class Asset Protection team through training programs, promotion of the department, identification of high achievers, etc.
  • Must possess strong interviewing skills (ex. Certified Forensic Interviewer, Wicklander - Zulawski certified)
  • Possess the ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
  • General knowledge of computer capabilities (word, excel, e-mail).
  • Possess good communication skills, both oral and written, as well as the ability to make effective presentations before groups.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone.
  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe and thorough completion of work activities. Possess the ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.
  • Multitasked oriented.

Physical Environment

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
  • Incumbent could spend a majority of time traveling throughout the Division visiting retail units, attending hearings and arbitration, etc.
  • Must have own transportation and be available for overnight travel.

Travel Requirements

75%+ of time spent traveling.

Compensation & Benefits

The pay range is $78,000 to $105,000 per year. Starting rates will vary based on location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (between 7-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
