Quality Assurance Manager

  2025-10-28     WizeHire     Anchorage,AK
Description:

Tundra Testing is Alaska's veteran-owned environmental and materials testing laboratory, strategically located near the Anchorage airport. We deliver precise, high-quality analytical services to Alaska's essential industries — including environmental, energy, construction, and real estate sectors — and are on track to achieve accreditation with A2LA ISO/IEC 17025:2017, NELAC (TNI), CS-LAP, and NLLAP.

We're seeking a Quality Assurance Manager to lead and elevate our Quality Management System (QMS). This is a cornerstone position responsible for ensuring every process, test, and record meets the highest standards of scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in ISO/IEC 17025 environments, thrives on structure and precision, and finds fulfillment in guiding teams toward operational excellence. You'll work closely with leadership, auditors, and technical managers to ensure our lab's data quality and accreditation standards are second to none.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the laboratory's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, NELAC/TNI, CS-LAP, and NLLAP requirements.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits, track nonconformance, manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and coordinate external audit responses.
  • Oversee document control, proficiency testing, and quality documentation updates to ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to accrediting and regulatory bodies, managing assessments, audit logistics, and follow-up actions.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement strategies using Lean or Six Sigma principles.
  • Supervise calibration and verification programs, ensuring all instruments and processes maintain full traceability and validation.
  • Provide QA training to laboratory personnel, reinforcing a culture of quality, compliance, and accountability across all operations.
  • Support LIMS integration, QA documentation systems, and quality data analysis to maintain real-time visibility into lab performance.
  • Collaborate with management and technical leads to proactively prepare for upcoming accreditations and audits.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field; advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred.
  • Experience: 5–10 years of QA leadership in an accredited testing or calibration laboratory.
  • Proven expertise in ISO/IEC 17025, internal auditing, nonconformance management, proficiency testing, and CAPA implementation.
  • Strong familiarity with NELAC/TNI, A2LA, CS-LAP, and NLLAP accreditation frameworks.
  • Experience in quality statistics, trend analysis, and continuous improvement methods (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills — able to write, present, and train effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with LIMS, document control systems, and quality data management tools.
  • Professional certifications (ASQ CQE, CQA, or similar) are highly desirable.

Compensation

$125,000 yearly

At Tundra Testing, precision isn't just a promise — it's our mission. We're a veteran-led, Alaska-owned environmental and materials testing laboratory based in Anchorage, strategically located near Ted Stevens International Airport to shorten the distance between sample and solution.

Our team delivers defensible, compliance-ready data for soil, water, air, and biological materials using EPA-approved, ISO/ASTM/NIOSH-validated methods. We support Alaska's most vital industries — oil and gas, construction, real estate, and environmental development — with a focus on speed, transparency, and regulatory confidence.

Driven by a culture of discipline, accountability, and service, we combine cutting-edge technology with local expertise to produce results that meet or exceed federal and state standards. Every analysis, every report, and every client relationship reflects what we stand for: respect, precision, and unwavering integrity.
