The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill an Office Assistant 2 position located in Anchorage at the McLaughlin Youth Center.
What you will be doing
As part of the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) nursing administrative support team, this position performs many essential administrative duties in the nursing office so that the health care team is able to focus on maintaining appropriate care of juveniles in our custody.
The OA 2 for the McLaughlin Youth Center Nursing Office has the following duties:
Perform administrative tasks for the nursing office to ensure that activities are performed in compliance with rules and regulations and according to established administrative procedures; prepare and maintain medical files using working knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations concerning confidentiality, information release, and access of medical records; prepare standard administrative correspondence and reports; as the initial customer service contact within the nursing department, assist with routine phone calls and appointment scheduling; maintain proficiency in the use of computer systems and office software programs; pick up medications and other items as needed (X-ray, vaccine, supplies, etc.); track medical bills and maintain accounting medical spreadsheet; maintain monthly nursing office statistics; respond to requests of information; prepare for and maintain psychiatric provider clinic schedules and provide technical assistance; function as a liaison between nurses, IT, and Maintenance, as appropriate; manage inventory for medical supplies and state-supplied vaccinations as well as up to date reconciliations.
The successful candidate must have outstanding communication skills and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision.

The working environment you can expect This position is located within the McLaughlin Youth Center, which is a 24-hour secure facility located at 2600 Providence Drive in Anchorage. This is a full-time position with work hours from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This includes a lunch period from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm in which you can take advantage of the local trail system surrounding the UMED district.

One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
Special Note: "High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
