The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG) Environmental Section is recruiting for an Environmental Program Specialist (EPS) Flex 1/2/3.
This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at ranges 14/16/18.
The EPS is flexibly staffed and may be filled at the 1, 2, or 3 level based on the applicants training and/or experience. The full salary range is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level at hire; promotion to the higher level may occur after probationary period and required training, as well as meeting minimum qualifications for the higher class.
This Environmental Program Specialist position offers an opportunity to develop expertise in environmental compliance and conservation while supporting AKARNG. Responsibilities include managing hazardous waste, fuel storage, spill response, soil and water sampling, site evaluation, and cultural resources, with formal and on?the?job training provided to enhance your skills. You will work as part of the environmental compliance team to support safe and sustainable management of AKARNG facilities and gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship within a dynamic military environment.
Our sections primary mission is to ensure environmental oversight and management across 18 AKARNG locations statewide by conducting staff training, engaging soldiers, performing compliance site visits, and delivering regulatory guidance. This supports readiness for State and Federal service and ensures environmental standards are met while supporting the overall mission through proactive management and compliance.

EPS 1 Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to a bachelors degree in environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources.
EPS 2 Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to a bachelors degree in the listed fields and professional experience in environmental regulations, pollution control, environmental impact evaluation, or related activities.
EPS 3 Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to a bachelors degree in the listed fields and professional experience in environmental regulations, pollution control, or related activities.
