Overview

ANSEP is actively searching for an experienced and dynamic leader to fill the role of ANSEP K-8 Assistant Director. This position oversees daily program operations, provides essential student support, and manages personnel. The Assistant Director ensures the smooth operation and quality instruction of all ANSEP K-8 components, including Middle School sessions, STEM Ready sessions, and Career Explorations, and contributes to budget monitoring, strategic documents, and student registration. The role also collaborates with site leadership to design, launch, and fully implement a new K-5 initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily program operations and provide essential student support.
  • Manage Program Assistants and student discipline; enforce policies and maintain professional boundaries with students and staff.
  • Ensure quality instruction across ANSEP K-8 components (Middle School, STEM Ready, Career Explorations).
  • Assist with budget monitoring and development of strategic documents.
  • Help manage student registration processes.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to design, launch, and implement a new K-5 initiative.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., STEM or education) and four years of progressively responsible relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A minimum of two years of classroom management experience in a school or academic program.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid AK driver's license and a three-year driving record.
  • Must be able to lift or move 25 to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Professional teaching license
  • Current CPR with AED/First Aid certification
  • Experience working with Indigenous Alaska or rural populations

Position Details

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage. It is a full-time, term-funded, exempt (salaried) staff position with a competitive salary and full benefits. UA offers a generous compensation package including retirement options, annual leave, holidays, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and health coverage. New hires are placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
