Credit Manager

The Credit Manager is responsible for safeguarding company assets through effective credit risk management, overseeing receivables collection and performance, while ensuring best-in-class credit practices. This position requires a balance of analytical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to support profitable growth while minimizing financial risk.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Implement credit policies, procedures, and controls that align with corporate risk tolerance.
  • Perform in-depth credit analyses on new and existing customers, including financial statement analysis, trade references, and credit bureau data.
  • Collaborate with Branch Managers on credit limits and terms of sale, balancing risk exposure with business growth opportunities.
  • Manage the company's accounts receivable portfolio, ensuring timely collections and minimizing past-due balances.
  • Directly manage collections and monitor DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) performance.
  • Collaborates on the dispute resolution process with sales, operations, and customers to resolve billing or contract collection issues.
  • Work closely and assist in-house counsel and outside counsel to manage the accounts receivable collections process, including:
    • Compiling information required to file notices of right to lien and claims of lien following the sale of building materials to customers.
    • Maintaining records and keeping track of filing deadlines to preserve company's ability to file encumbrances with the State of Alaska Recorder's Office.
    • Drafting demand letters to initiate formal request for payment.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by providing consultative credit guidance while ensuring adherence to company credit policies and payment terms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, operations, and finance to align credit strategies with overall company goals.
  • Prepare monthly reports on credit exposure, aging trends, and bad debt reserves for executive leadership.
  • Identify potential high-risk accounts and recommend strategies to mitigate exposure.
  • Drive process improvements in credit evaluation, automation, and reporting.
  • Stay current on industry trends, economic factors, and regulatory compliance related to credit risk management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk principles, financial statements, and key credit metrics.
  • Knowledge of best practices in AR Management, dispute resolution, and collections process.
  • ERP systems, credit management platforms, and Microsoft Suite of products.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 810 years of progressively responsible experience in credit management, risk management, or financial analysis may be considered, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in construction materials, distribution, or manufacturing.
  • Direct experience with construction lien laws and processes.
Physical Demands

The physical demands of the job require regular talking and hearing, frequent sitting, reaching, and using hands. Occasionally, the employee must stand, walk, climb, balance, and lift up to ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities include adjusting focus.
