We are seeking highly motivated Assistant Engineers that are interested in accelerating their career to the next level. We prefer candidates that have salvage, towing, emergency response, and operational experience on conventional ocean-going tug/anchor handling vessels in mainland US Coastal Waters, Gulf of Mexico, and NW Pacific/ Alaska with a minimum of 2 years' experience as Assistant Engineer.

They will demonstrate the ability to cooperate and communicate well with coworkers, supervisors, and subordinates. They will step up as a leader but be willing to ask for support when needed. They will be reliable and able to see a task through to completion, demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills. They will follow all safety protocols, adhere to regulations, and company policies.

  • Assisting in ship's technical maintenance and the safe, efficient, economical operation of all her machinery
  • Following all the engine room procedures
  • Assisting in the engineering/technical department jobs
  • Assisting in maintaining sufficient bunkers and other essential engine-related stores and consumables
  • Assisting for the safe and efficient loading and transferring of bunkers
  • Assisting in day to day running of all plant and machinery
  • Performs necessary routine maintenance, repairs, and handles ship's technical jobs under the direction of the Chief Engineer
  • Stands engine room watch while vessel is underway or as and when deemed necessary
  • Maintaining log of the lube/oil quantities and consumptions
  • Monitoring and analyzing cooling water
  • Assisting to maintain the general condition/maintenance of machineries, steering gear, air conditioning, etc.
  • Keeping engine room watches and carrying out any assigned maintenance jobs
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with a current and active US passport
  • Must have a current USCG License for Assistant Engineer with endorsements
  • Must meet the applicable statutory guidelines regarding credentials and eligibility to work criteria
  • Must have MMC endorsement of Assistant Engineer of Motor propelled vessels with USCG endorsements
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Valid USCG STCW and National medicals
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as an Assistant Engineer
  • Have stood independent engine room watches on ocean-going vessels
  • Show the ability to develop and execute innovative solutions to engineering problems
  • Ability to handle increasing levels of responsibility
  • Well versed with USCG/ABS/ISM/TSMS/ISPS regulatory requirements as applicable to ocean-going tugs
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be a team player & leader with a positive attitude who takes pride in their work
  • Has demonstrated the ability to cooperate and communicate well with coworkers, supervisors, and subordinates
  • Has strong attention to detail, is performance, and results-driven to maintain vessels at all times in full readiness for any emergency response requirements
  • Be reliable and demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills
  • Able to see a task through to completion, demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills
  • Applicants to meet the physical demands while performing the tasks required for transferring/operating portable pumps, routine housekeeping duties, general maintenance, and assisting in the routine onboard jobs. These duties will be performed during all types of weather, night and day, and while the vessel is underway
  • Incumbents are required to use hand tools, power tools, painting equipment, and personal protective gear
  • Incumbents are frequently required to move equipment that is heavy or awkward and must meet a 100 lb. lifting requirement.
  • The candidate is someone who has hands-on experience on vessels with the following:
  • Detroit Diesel
  • Caterpillar
  • Scania Engines
  • John Deere Generators
  • Towing winches
  • Towing gears
  • Hydraulics
  • The candidate should be proficient in Word and Excel
  • Must follow all safety protocols and adhere to regulations and company policies
  • This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as part of the US Coast Guard and other compliance agency requirements

Travel Requirement:

This position is primarily a position onboard a sailing vessel and would require travel, including international travel depending on the schedule of the vessel.
