Summary of Job Functions:

The Job Coach in Integrated Employment Services supports individuals in The Arc of Anchorage's employment program by helping them obtain and maintain meaningful work while also fostering independence, community participation, and essential life skills. Working both one-on-one and in small groups, the Job Coach promotes self-sufficiency and protects individual rights while ensuring a safe environment and responding effectively to emergencies. The role involves developing and implementing individualized service and employment plans, assisting with job readiness, applications, on-site training, supervision, and retention, and collaborating closely with families, employers, and community partners to ensure success. In addition, the Job Coach may provide guidance with social interactions, daily living, hygiene tasks, health care needs, and medication support as directed. Professional communication, accurate documentation, adherence to policies and ethical standards, and the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position are essential to meeting program goals and fulfilling The Arc's mission of helping every individual reach their fullest potential.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Participate as a team member in developing, implementing, and supporting each individual's service plan, personal assessment, and employment goals.
  • Promote self-sufficiency, independence, and human rights in alignment with The Arc's Mission and Guiding Principles.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with individuals served, parents/guardians, supervisors, team members, and community partners.
  • Maintain positive, professional working relationships with individuals, colleagues, employers, and agency staff.
  • Learn, follow, and adhere to all program and agency policies, procedures, and schedules, including the Employee Handbook and Integrated Services Manual.
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and an ethical code of conduct.
  • Follow and enforce safety rules to ensure a safe environment free of hazards; conduct and support safety drills.
  • Handle emergencies calmly and professionally, including evacuating individuals as needed.
  • Assist in gathering required documentation for individuals seeking employment services through DVR or partner agencies.
  • Provide onsite job assessments, training, supervision, and support to individuals at job sites.
  • Support trainees with job choices, readiness, applications, and retention skills.
  • Coordinate or schedule transportation to and from job sites when needed.
  • Communicate with employers to monitor progress and determine supports required for success.
  • Accurately complete service documentation, note entries, and program progress reports within required timelines.
  • Meet program standards for service delivery, productivity, and deadlines.
  • Ability to exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, and 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Be able to work effectively for and with individuals who have intellectual and behavioral disabilities
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Excellent communication skills, judgment, and a willingness to listen
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Basic level computer use and experience with Microsoft Office required
  • Valid Alaska driver license and use of a personal vehicle to travel to work sites
  • Clean driving record
  • Continuous use of a vehicle during work shifts with proof of insurance
Clearances:
  • Background checks as defined by licensing agencies
  • Current TB test/clearance
  • Pass mandatory agency trainings (Corporate Compliance, Mandatory Reporting, CPR, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
  • Standing and moving about for extended periods of time
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
  • Communication skills using the English spoken word
  • Ability to see within normal parameters
Equipment Used:
  • Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other office-related devices.
  • Vehicle
