POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Afognak Native Corporation has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Controller at our corporate office in Anchorage, Alaska. The Assistant Controller will provide high-level support to the Vice President Finance - Commercial Operations in a multi-organization Alaska Native Corporation's commercial operations. This position requires a highly motivated individual focused on continual process improvements of handling day-to-day accounting functions and process workflows.

  • Assists with Company's monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process to ensure reporting requirements are met.
  • Establish strong relationships with cross-functional peers and lead Finance team to collaborate with others throughout the company.
  • Assist with the development, enhancement and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to improve overall operation and efficiencies and reduce risk of the business.
  • Develop and assist with external auditing policies, procedures and data collection.
  • Develop and assist with GAAP and applicable accounting policies and procedures across all departments.
  • Completing, reviewing, and monitoring monthly reconciliations.
  • Assist with sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliation and complete required journal entries.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Complete consolidation entries related to majority and minority owned entities.
  • Develop management and leadership skills within the Finance department.
  • Other duties as assigned
Payrate: $130,602 to $163,252 Annually

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller, or in public accounting
  • CPA/CMA highly preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, demonstrated by experience or education.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting processes
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills and collaboration with corporate stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
