Performs chair side assistance and related duties in all phases of restorative, prosthodontic, surgical, endodontic, interceptive orthodontic and periodontal treatment as provided in general dentistry. Essential functions include preparing and sterilizing instruments, setting up trays, preparing materials and assisting the dentist during dental procedures. The role also involves receiving, reassuring, and routing patients for treatment, laying out instruments and materials needed for each treatment, assisting the dentist in all phases of general dentistry, utilizing techniques for four handed sit-down dentistry, passing instruments and materials to the dentist, keeping the intra-oral area of operation clear, aiding the dentist in calming fearful patients, operating dental x-ray equipment, performing intra-oral procedures, taking preliminary impressions for study models, pouring and trimming models from impressions, constructing mouth guards and bleaching trays, placing and removing rubber dams, administering fluoride treatments and sealants, relaying dentist's instructions to patients for post-treatment care, instructing patients on brushing and flossing techniques, recording medical history of patients, documenting the examination and treatment information, routing patients for medical tests and services when required, cleaning and sterilizing materials, instruments and equipment, maintaining operatories in a neat and orderly fashion, observing appropriate infection control measures, providing exceptional customer service, receiving patients in a friendly, professional and courteous manner, answering phones and directing calls to appropriate staff members, taking messages as required, determining which calls can be handled by staff members and which need management, personally responding to non-technical questions regarding the department, assisting patients by providing accurate information that meets the patients' needs the first time, and adhering to the Tribe's policies and procedures.
