A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.Two years of diversified diesel/gasoline engine service and repair work on motorized equipment. Click to view the physical capacities assessment requirements for this position.Knowledge of and ability to diagnose, remove, and replace, if necessary, any and all parts and components including but not limited to engines, transmissions, and differentials.Performs routine and preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, changing or servicing air cleaners, servicing battery, repairing or replacing tires and brakes, checking all fluid levels in the radiator, transmission differential, power steering, windshield washing reservoir, brakes, etc.Washes and cleans equipment, including steam cleaning of engines.Tunes up ASD vehicles as needed.Routinely inspects parts including but not limited to, steering wheel and front end looseness, brake pedal, clutch adjustment, drive-line looseness, safety equipment, lights, muffler, tail pipe, broken springs, worn fan belts, chaffed wiring, defective wipers, oil, water, and gas leaks.Removes, replaces, or repairs all parts and components including engines, transmissions, and differentials as needed.Performs light cutting and welding required to maintain and repair motorized equipment.Performs I/M inspections and repairs on required Anchorage School District owned vehicles.Reports any defects in equipment to supervisors.Maintains cleanliness of vehicles inside and outside.Assists with the maintenance of yard and shop.Maintains knowledge of equipment operation and performs service calls as needed.Accommodates shifts subject to change.Maintains records and writes reports as required.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.Bargaining Unit: Maintenance

Job SummaryThe Automotive Service Technician Light Duty performs maintenance and repair of engines and related Anchorage School District equipment. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
