Job Description
The Fiscal Operations Department of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Senior Accounting Clerk (salary range 12). Under the general supervision of the Court Accounting Analyst, this position will perform a variety of accounting and technical functions.
The incumbent will be responsible for the review, processing, and accounting for all court revenue funds and trust funds and will serve as the department's liaison to court bookkeepers, rural court trainers, and magistrate judges regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Regular job duties will include the following:

The incumbent will be responsible for processing and accounting for all post-judgment restitution collection transactions and garnishment efforts. This includes interfacing with and providing customer service to defendants and victims to ensure timely payment of restitution judgments. The role involves researching party contact information and maintaining updates in the system, as well as processing reminder and notification mailings. You will examine, verify, summarize, maintain, and reconcile receipts, deposits, checks, and merchant statements for funds processed through the case management system across 38 court locations and administrative offices.

Additionally, you will review and process accounting documents for accuracy and efficiency concerning court funds. Furthermore, you will account for the money collected by the courts that is deposited into the court's trust account and the state's general fund. This includes processing treasury receipts, accumulating revenue transaction data, and entering it into the state's accounting system. You will also review documents related to the funds collected by the courts that are deposited on behalf of other government entities, process disbursements related to state and city revenues, and prepare journal entries.

You will assist bookkeepers in researching complex accounting discrepancies and advise them on appropriate remedies. Additionally, you will manage Help Desk calls regarding accounting requests and functions. Your responsibilities will also include coordinating the timely submission of the annual Unclaimed Property Report by reviewing the data collected from each court. You will provide support to rural court trainers in training bookkeepers and assist in establishing policies, practices, and procedures related to case management systems.

Work Hours

Full-time court employees currently work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate AND two years of clerical accounting work experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitution:A bachelor's degree may be substituted for one year of the required two years of clerical accounting work experience.
