JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing the purchasing function across multiple departments, including retail and wholesale operations. This position plays a vital role in maintaining vendor relationships, managing inventory, analyzing category performance, and ensuring that purchasing goals and financial targets are met. The Senior Purchasing Manager will lead cross-functional initiatives, optimize procurement processes, and maintain accurate data and reporting.
Requirements:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Associate or equivalent experience.
· Minimum of 7 years of Category Management experience across multiple product categories.
· Proven team management experience, including successful coaching and mentoring of team members, and the development of SMART goals to provide clear direction and drive performance
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIIES
· Strong background in commodity purchasing and freight/logistics coordination.
· Extensive knowledge of consolidation and transportation methods.
· Highly proficient in Microsoft BI, Excel, including use of formulas, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Adept at forecasting sales, margins, SKU management, and multiple metrics
· Strong written, verbal, and negotiation skills.
· Exceptional time management, organization, and multi-tasking ability.
· Able to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
· Adaptability to changing processes and business needs.
· Proven ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Supervise and lead cross-functional teams to develop and execute purchasing strategies.
· Collaborate effectively with internal department leaders to ensure alignment across all company departments.
· Manage vendor inventory, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain accurate records.
· Establish a productive working relationship with vendors to build a promotional calendar that support sales and align with tradeshow deals
· Monitor daily fill rate performance; generate and analyze related reports.
· Maintain up-to-date vendor lead times and minimum order requirements
· Ensure key item availability by adjusting order levels and inventory forecasts.
· Set up new vendors and onboard them into internal systems.
· Keep vendor price lists current, process manufacturer price increases.
· Maintain and correct vendor and dealer catalog data as needed.
· Introduce and maintain new item information, including descriptions and category coding.
· Serve as liaison between purchasing, operations, accounting, and customer service for any vendor/product changes.
· Issue purchase orders, track shipments, and ensure timely product delivery.
· Analyze category performance (sales, margin, and inventory) and implement improvement strategies.
· Enter and verify invoices for received goods in coordination with vendors and accounting.
· Negotiate pricing, programs, and contracts with vendors and seek out new supplier opportunities.
· Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and Sales Team to develop and submit promotional programs.
· Stay informed about industry trends and new product developments.
· Represent the company professionally at trade shows and in vendor meetings.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Requires standing and/or walking for long periods of time on hard surfaces.
· Requires ability to bend and stoop throughout the day.
· Requires ability to use arms and shoulders to lift and reach overhead, mid-level and low-level.
· Requires ability to climb stairs.
· Requires ability to lift and/or move items that weigh up to 50 lbs.
WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Works closely with Vice President, President, Sales, and administration staff. Requires ability to work as a team player with all company management and employees.
SALARY
$75,000 to $110,000 Compensation will vary based on experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors. The position includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
