Umialik Insurance Company, a member of the Western National Insurance Group, is seeking a Senior Claims Representative to join our team!
The individual in this role will have the opportunity to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve multiline insurance claims as assigned. This individual will interact with policyholders, claimants, and agents, and will maintain regular contact with employees across the organization to handle various claims, working to ensure a positive customer experience.
What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?
- Supports the ongoing implementation of the core business attributes of empowerment, accountability, and connectiveness.
- Handles moderate-to-high complexity claims within settlement authority.
- Recognizes claim file exposures and escalates appropriately.
- Provides direction to outside resources.
- Makes decisions guided by general instructions and practices requiring interpretation.
- Automatically makes decisions on routine issues.
- Makes recommendations to solve more complex problems.
- Recognizes problems or situations that are new or without clear precedent.
- Finds solutions using a systematic, multi-step approach.
- Primarily responsible for developing improvements and innovations to enhance performance.
- Investigates and reviews policy forms, facts, and documents related to claims to make appropriate decisions on claims resolution.
- Establishes and reviews proper reserves for each claim based upon thorough investigation, evaluation, and experience, maintaining appropriate reports to ensure the current status of claims is clearly documented at all times.
- Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards by responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer's expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer's issue is resolved.
- Provides direction to outside resources.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate? - Must be willing to travel as necessary throughout Alaska to complete required fieldwork (e.g., site inspections, damage assessments).
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry practices, standards, and claims concepts.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask.
- Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
- Ability to travel to home office when appropriate.
Requirements
What will our ideal candidate have? - Prior claims processing experience.
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field; experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
- Related certification is strongly preferred (AIC or AINS).
Compensation overview The full hiring range for this role $68,250 - $93,786, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate, as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and / or may be considered for other positions.
