SCG is seeking a Digital Director to oversee digital ad strategy and placement for political campaigns and aligned projects, including local and state candidate campaigns, ballot initiatives and issue-based accountability programs. The key responsibility of this role is to build on the foundation of SCG's marketing department to develop a best in class digital program, driving voter engagement and action, online name recognition and fundraising for various candidates and initiatives.

The Digital Director will be a member of the leadership team, supporting the development of systems and templates for digital planning and placement. This will likely involve hiring, training and organizing an additional team member or members to help cover the workload and build new expertise and capabilities. The Digital Director will also work with SCG's leadership to scope and evaluate new growth vectors, including but not limited to expansion in other rural, red-leaning states; expansion into corporate and nonprofit organizations in Alaska, and/or vertical integration across Alaska's political landscape. Finally, the Digital Director will lead efforts to better understand Alaska's advertising and social media ecosystems and design innovative ways of reaching voters across new and existing channels.

The Digital Director will manage budgets and ad distribution, track performance, provide regular client reports, and work with the Creative team to assist with content strategy. They will also work closely with the Data Team to develop audiences and targets, and with the Project Management and Fundraising teams to ensure coordination with the campaign plan, fundraising plan, and with other paid communications, in line with the campaign or client's overarching messages.

DUTIES & AREAS OF ACTIVITY

50% Ad Strategy & Placement

  • Design and implement digital strategies that will cut through the noise, persuade and engage voters across platforms, primarily Meta and Google
  • Serve as the go-to thought partner for Project Managers on digital strategy
  • Drive development of metrics and targets for evaluation and performance
  • Ensure digital campaigns remain within budget and on message
  • Manage multiple concurrent ad campaigns ranging from $10K-$10M

30% Supervise Digital Team

  • Build and improve the systems, internal processes and templates for the digital team, expanding on existing infrastructure when possible
  • Stay up to date on the latest advertising platforms, features, tools, etc.
  • Manage and coach the Deputy Digital Director and other hired staff, provide feedback and mentorship to achieve identified goals, build skills and knowledge
  • Identify opportunities and resources for industry training, networking and skills-building

20% Administrative

  • Coordinate ongoing report delivery for projects and campaigns with Project Managers
  • Track the digital team's annual performance metrics for internal reporting
  • Solicit and provide client feedback on SCG's digital program
  • Support SCG's business development, including identification of growth sectors and expansion opportunities in other states
  • Proactively identify gaps for digital process improvement across teams and provide solutions/training, leverage automation across tools to create efficiencies

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • We are looking for a candidate with at least three of the five criteria outlined below:
    • Supervisory Experience - You have previously supervised staff to complete projects and achieve defined goals, and/or scaled a team
    • 5+ Years Digital Marketing Experience - You have expert-level experience placing digital ads across leading social media platforms and other media, including Google and Meta.
    • Alaska Connection - You are connected to Alaska and have some familiarity with the Alaskan political landscape
    • Political Acumen - You have political chops from previous campaign experience, either with a candidate or for an issue-based campaign
    • Systems Management Experience - You have are a hard worker, have excellent organizational skills and the ability to set up and manage systems for multi-faceted projects or programs

Additional skills:

  • You're fluent in Google Workspace, particularly Sheets, Docs & Drive and have experience with project management software.
  • You're organized, self-directed, and able to work virtually and independently within multidisciplinary teams
  • You thrive on campaign energy and are comfortable working long, irregular hours in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • You've managed multiple ad accounts concurrently, with a wide range of budgets and a high volume of creative collateral
  • Your content is engaging and consistent in tone, messaging, and branding. You can distill complex policy issues/stances into easy to understand soundbites
  • You're not bothered by last-minute changes in content priority, deadline or budget in order to capitalize on a current moment/trend
  • You enjoy mentoring and coaching junior staff
