Position Title: Senior Accountant - Grants & Financial Reporting

Department: Finance, Divisional Headquarters

Reports to: Division Finance Director

FSLA Status: Full-Time/40 hours per week; Exempt

Pay: $70K - $80K (DOE)

Location: Anchorage (Hybrid)

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant - Grants & Financial Reporting assists the Division Finance Director in managing and analyzing financial performance, preparing budgets, managing grants, and supporting audits. The role involves collaboration with the Salvation Army Northwest Division Finance Department, ensuring compliance with policies and FASB standards.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • At least three years of accounting experience with a degree, or seven years without a degree.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, general accounting practices, and financial statements.
  • Experience with non-profits, fund accounting, and government grants preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Audit Support

  • Review general ledger activity and reconcile accounts monthly.
  • Support audits and identify process improvements.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Assist in annual budget preparation and revisions.

Grant Management & Compliance

  • Prepare budgets for grants and maintain documentation.
  • Review grant expenses and ensure compliance.
  • Support grant reporting and closeouts.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare financial reports and conduct ad hoc analyses.

Collaboration & Cross-Training

  • Support cross-functional financial operations and training.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Office setting, low noise; ability to sit, walk, lift up to 25 lbs, and work at a computer for long periods.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to operate office equipment and drive with a valid license.
  • Completion of required training and background checks.
  • Understanding and support of The Salvation Army's religious mission.
