Site Superintendent/Site Safety Health Officer - AMCC

Summary:

This will be a dual-hatted position, serving as both the Site Superintendent and the Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO). This position requires up to 75% travel, with workdays while in travel status potentially extending up to 12 hours. This position will be based out of the Anchorage, AK office and will primarily be a 'Field Assignment Position' within the state of Alaska.

The Site Superintendent is responsible for directly supervising and coordinating construction activities, as well as overseeing daily operational safety compliance and worker training.

The SSHO is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing the implementation and maintenance of the project's occupational health and safety program. The goal is to prevent injuries, occupational illnesses, and property damage. The SSHO collaborates closely with the Project Manager, subcontractors, and other third-party entities to establish preventive measures that meet or exceed OSHA and other applicable safety and health regulations.

The salary range for this position is $119,600-$130,000/year. This position does require 75%-100% travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)

  • Assist and coordinate with the team to manage field personnel to complete tasks on time and within budget.
  • Supervise equipment operators and other craft laborers on construction and environmental job sites.
  • Examine and inspect work progress and equipment on construction and environmental project sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Read specifications such as blueprints to determine construction requirements and to plan procedures.
  • Estimate materials and worker requirements to complete jobs.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of construction or extractive workers.
  • Confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors in order to resolve problems and coordinate activities.
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction and environmental project activities.
  • Order or requisition materials and supplies as needed.
  • Locate, measure, and mark site locations and placement of structures and equipment using measuring and marking equipment.
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports; communicate with the Project Manager.
  • Assign work to employees based on material and worker requirements of specific jobs.
  • Provide assistance to workers engaged in construction activities using hand tools and equipment.
  • Train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Analyze worker and production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans.
  • Arrange for repairs of equipment and machinery.
  • Stop work, if necessary, to resolve matters that affect safety, quality, and/or inhibit the logical progress of work.
  • Participate in regularly held meetings involving project staff and external stakeholders, such as Owners, Subcontractors, etc.
  • Schedule and supervise subcontractors.
  • Determines the applicability of administrative and regulatory requirements and other health and safety laws and implements applicable regulations and standards. Maintain current knowledge of legislation, regulations, and safety practices applicable to the United States, the Department of State Overseas Building Operations (DOS/OBO), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.
  • Establishes and implements safety training objectives. Plans and schedules tasks related to health and safety. Conducts safety/health-related training. Maintains all records and data related to project employee and subcontractor training, medical examinations, licenses, and certifications. Conducts safety orientation and weekly safety meetings.
  • Represents the company in inspections and hearings conducted by clients, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conducts and supervises site inspections, job hazard analyses, and other evaluations to identify hazards and potential risks. Makes recommendations to managers, as required, and implements appropriate corrective actions. Conducts audits of corrective actions to ensure compliance with regulations and corrective actions.
  • Reviews and approves subcontractor site-specific safety plans.
  • Conducts post-accident investigations and recommends changes in equipment and processes to correct unsafe conditions. Assess accident statistics to determine requirements for new or modified training.
  • Assists with risk management and environmental health issues.
  • Prepares, recommends, and administers budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Prepares complex analytical documents and correspondence.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, prime, subcontractors, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Promotes a culture that encourages, recognizes, and rewards safe conduct.
  • Conducts presentations on assigned topics, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Mixed construction crew of subcontractors, craft workers, and laborers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent
  • Three (3) years of relevant working experience
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Knowledge and experience with construction machinery and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, maintenance, and the practical application of use
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be covered under the company vehicle policy
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test

Preferred Qualifications
  • USACE/QCM Certification
  • Remote project experience
  • Proficient in Logistics
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
  • USACE EM 385-1-1 certification
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Working Environment:
  • May be indoors or outdoors, subject to confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.
  • Locations can be remote with limited travel options and subject to government travel access and restrictions.


Physical Demands (including but not limited to):
  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials
