The position of Director of Operations will have primary responsibility to manage the daily operations of our Anchorage Terminal and personnel. The Director will drive operational excellence across warehousing, transportation, compliance, and customer solutions. This position will measure, track, and report a variety of performance metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
In This Role, You Will:
- Lead and monitor all daily operations across the warehouse, dispatch, and transportation teams.
- Develop and enforce operational standards, compliance practices, and process improvements.
- Manage vendor and carrier partnerships to enhance service levels and cost efficiency.
- Monitor key financial and operational metrics, ensuring efficiency and profitability.
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Communication between sales, customer service, operations - dispatch and warehousing to obtain a superior level of service.
- Champion and oversee safety program for all terminal employees
- Oversee and coordinate all operational issues, warehouse, trucking, and storage.
- Oversee company purchasing on warehouse, truck, office and other needs for the company.
- Handle special projects as assigned by the President of IML.
- All other duties and projects as assigned.
Operations
- Establishes and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs), contract details including rate summaries for all customers.
- Ensures that all warehouse operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
- Ensures margins meet agreed upon benchmarks; leads the teams to support the profitability goals.
- Reviews all warehouse equipment purchases, and leasing contracts and ensures contacts are current and aligned with Odyssey policies.
- Organize, plan, and implement warehouse solutions for customers that utilize the best cost operation to maximize profitability and ensure customer needs are continuously met.
- Establish and maintain information and communications systems with customers to maintain flexibility in response to customer needs.
- Develop customer presentations and participate to QBRs.
- Monitor daily activities of all departments, develop performance objectives, and regularly provide performance feedback.
- Establish robust performance metrics and reporting mechanisms to track progress against operational goals and objectives.
- Analyze operational data and metrics to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key insights and recommendations.
- Directly responsible for departmental staffing, interviewing, training, discipline, and performance.
- Produce statistical reports, analyses, and exhibits for internal use by management or for external reporting.
- Evaluate business levels and develop forecasts.
- Research and monitor cost of supplies and equipment.
- Monitor and manage costs to maximize efficiency.
- Continue to evaluate best practices to improve employee productivity levels.
- Reviews activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine facility progress toward stated goals and objectives.
- Prepares short- and long-term facility business plans and budgets based on Division goals and objectives.
- Reviews claims activity and establishes procedures that minimize Odyssey's exposure to claims from customers or 3rd party providers.
- Work in collaboration with members of the management team toward positive resolution of customer cargo claims.
- Work in collaboration with Division President and VP of Sales to pursue new customer accounts and maximize opportunities within existing contracts.
- Participate in systems implementations projects as requested or assigned.
Vendor and Partner Management:
- Manage relationships with carriers, vendors, suppliers, and other external partners to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to optimize cost savings and service levels.
- Evaluate vendor performance and make recommendations for improvements or changes as needed.
Leadership
- Contributes to the formulation and administration of company policies and procedures.
- Creates an atmosphere that promotes employee involvement and communicates regularly with facility management.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conducts performance evaluations and recommends promotion, wage increases and other performance related actions such as verbal and written counseling notices, discipline, and termination of employment.
- Establishes and frequently reviews developmental action plans that promote growth for the individual and strengthens succession planning initiatives.
Safety
- Reviews facility Safety performance and provides appropriate guidance to ensure continuous focus and improvement.
- Track warehouse safety performance, partnering with corporate safety to develop preventative practices, training and corrective actions for accidents and incidents.
- Work with safety to audit employee general safety and equipment operator training.
- Audit overall facilities' condition and appearance.
- Promote safe work behaviors in accordance with state, local, and federal regulations, and company policies.
- Assist with accident investigations and participate in safety review discussions alongside other members of management and the safety teams.

- 10+ Years of progressive leadership in supply chain, transportation, or operational management.
- Prior experience with Alaska-based, coastal, or tradelane-specific operations preferred.
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Deep expertise with TMS and WMS systems.
- Strong financial and operational management skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Location:
This is an in-office role based in Anchorage, AK.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position provides supervisory oversight for a team of at least 60 associates.
