Job Opportunity: Assistant Aquatic Manager

Open to: The general public and current Municipal employees.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Department and Location

  • Department: Parks & Recreation
  • Hours of Work: Vary; Monday through Friday; 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Locations: West High School, Bartlett Pool & Dimond Pools

Employment Eligibility

Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage does not sponsor visas or permits.

Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Assistant Aquatic Manager will:

  • Train and lead lifeguards
  • Oversee the operation of aquatic facilities, including pools and waterfront lakes
  • Ensure safety of all aquatic venue users
  • Manage lifeguard programs and instruct water safety and first aid classes
  • Maintain and monitor pool systems and cleanliness
  • Operate equipment, perform minor repairs, and handle facility records
  • Perform duties at various aquatic facilities as directed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, plus two years of lifeguard experience and one year as a swim instructor
  • Or an Associate's Degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or related field, plus one year of swim instructor experience

Licenses and Certifications (must be obtained by hire)

  • Valid Alaska driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid Certification
  • CPR for Professional Rescuers
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Automatic External Defibrillator Certification
  • Pool/spa or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification

Additional Information

Preference will be given to AMEA employees. All certifications and licenses must remain current throughout employment. Conditional employment is contingent upon background checks, drug testing, and submission of current certifications and licenses.
