Position Overview

Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Natural Science Labs, the Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 - Biology & Chemistry will coordinate and provide instructional laboratory support to undergraduate courses. Responsibilities include procuring materials, maintaining lab safety, setting up labs, and assisting instructors. The role emphasizes understanding and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and working against institutional norms of oppression.

Essential Duties

  • Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and materials, adhering to safety procedures.
  • Assist students and faculty in laboratory tasks and modify experiments as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, ensure safety compliance, and coordinate with shared spaces.
  • Order supplies, evaluate equipment, and assist with inventory management.
  • Support safety policies and supervise laboratory personnel.
  • Participate in campus events and committees, and support faculty in monitoring and instructing students during field trips.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with managing chemical and biological waste per regulations.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting college-level science labs in multiple disciplines.
  • Knowledge of native and invasive plants of Western Washington.
  • Experience with aseptic techniques and laboratory instruction.

Terms of Employment

Full-time, ten-month position, 40 hours/week, with salary range $3,811 - $4,299/month, plus benefits and premium pay. Employment is represented and includes a probationary period.

Physical Work Environment

Hybrid work model with on-campus presence 4-5 days/week, requiring communication skills, physical ability to handle objects, and safety awareness.
