Bowhead Transport Company (BTC) provides marine cargo transportation, lightering, environmental and research support, logistics, and oilfield services. Our diverse fleet of vessels offers comprehensive marine services across multiple regions of Alaska. We are seeking an experienced engineer to perform preventive and corrective maintenance aboard our 200 GRT, 150ft Landing Craft, MV Unalaq, built in 2014. We offer all mariners a rotating schedule, an impressive insurance plan, and optional 401K benefits.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance and repairs of all engineering systems, including propulsion, power generation, electrical, lubrication, fuel, water distillation, HVAC, fire suppression, emergency equipment, and deck equipment.
  • Supervise employees as required.
  • Assist the Project Manager with vessel maintenance statistics, staff training, and workplace safety.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to complete an annual Merchant Mariners physical exam and perform physically demanding shipboard duties.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical matters clearly.
  • Proficient writing skills for technical documentation.
  • Accurate record keeping of maintenance and repairs.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills, with the ability to resolve issues promptly.

Required Experience:

  • USCG Rated as Designated Duty Engineer, 4000 HP with STCW-95.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an engineer on vessels, including maintenance of propulsion, electrical, electronic, pneumatic systems, and support equipment.
  • U.S. Citizenship, current U.S. Passport, valid TWIC, and Driver's License.

Physical Demands:

  • Must pass an annual Merchant Mariners physical exam and perform physically demanding duties.
  • Ability to read, write, calculate, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Capability to perform repetitive, prolonged postures and lift up to 65 lbs regularly.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Work in confined spaces, adverse weather, and noisy environments.
  • Exposure to fuels, solvents, dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Work on vessels in extreme weather conditions, including arctic environments.
