Supervisory Aerospace Engineer (Section Manager)

Description:

As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI), provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment based on agency performance, the manager's individual performance, and available funding.

Serves as a SECTION MANAGER, directly supervising multiple employees and/or organizational units.

Basic Requirements

Successful completion of a full four-year professional engineering curriculum leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. To be acceptable, the curriculum must:

  • Be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by ABET as a professional engineering curriculum, or
  • Include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) properties of materials; (g) other comparable engineering science or physics areas.

Alternative Requirements

Combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences, and understanding of engineering sciences and techniques. This can be shown through:

  • Professional registration as a licensed engineer, or
  • Passing the Engineer-in-Training exam, or
  • Completion of at least 60 semester hours of relevant courses, or
  • Related curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or a related field, with at least 1 year of professional engineering experience.

Experience Requirements

To qualify, demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the FV-J, FG/GS-14 level, including:

  • Supporting development of strategic plans for complex organizations.
  • Developing plans and techniques to improve programs.
  • Managing work applying aviation safety regulations, policies, and objectives.
  • Determining staffing and resource needs using data analysis.
