Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. is currently seeking a Vessel Captain for our Anchorage, AK location.

Position Description

The vessel captain is responsible for commanding, operating, and navigating Alaska Region vessels on all operations in offshore oil and gas, marine construction, or salvage environments. This includes serving as master in charge of safe operations for the vessel and crew, and maintaining vessel records to ensure regulatory compliance. The captain follows all company procedures and USCG maritime rules and regulations. Additionally, the vessel captain oversees and manages Global dive vessels and equipment within the Alaska Region.

Position Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure safe navigation and operation of the vessel in Alaska
  • Control lines to moor, tie up, or tow the vessel
  • Handle mooring lines and rigging for launching or docking
  • Manage vessel operations including underway, mooring, anchoring, and handling lines in all weather conditions
  • Perform lookout duties to monitor traffic and safety conditions
  • Ensure crew and passenger safety compliance
  • Prepare the vessel before trips and demobilize after
  • Maintain accurate ship logs
  • Comply with USCG and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in meetings, training, drills, and safety audits
  • Provide engineering and maintenance support, including mechanical repairs and troubleshooting marine systems
  • Perform vessel maintenance such as scraping, painting, oil changes, and repairs
  • Support budgeted maintenance and upgrade planning
  • Perform physical tasks involving safety equipment and hazardous materials
  • Drive company vehicles as needed

Typical Schedule for Full-Time Employees:

  • Availability on a variable schedule and responsive to job changes

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Must be 19 years or older
  • Maritime experience, particularly workboat experience of 50 tons or above
  • Heavy equipment experience

Knowledge/Skills

  • Passport and TWIC card
  • HAZWOPER certification
  • Current GDS mandatory training
  • Medical PIC certification
  • USCG Master License or previous license; navigation experience and sea time
  • Experience operating vessels in dynamic environments
  • Previous DSV experience
  • Knowledge of Alaska tides and currents
  • Annual medical physical, USCG physical if licensed

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to work any day, including nights and emergencies
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing compliance
  • Background check clearance
  • Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs, and work in all weather conditions for up to 12 hours
