Alaska Pacific University (APU) invites applications for Assistant or Associate Professor of Environmental Public Health (EPH) and Director of Environmental Public Health. Candidates should have specialization in Environmental Health.
THE PROGRAM AREA:The Environmental Public Health program is a new program offering a broad core curriculum and specialized studies dedicated to studying environmental health in Alaska. The program will prepare students to be environmental health professionals who investigate, report, and address environmental hazards in the built and natural environment. APU's program focuses on applied environmental health science complemented by field-work in Alaska's urban and rural communities. Environmental Public Health is part of the Institute of Culture and Environment, which also includes Marine and Environmental Science, Outdoor Studies, Education, and Liberal Studies programs.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:The contract carries a 9-month teaching load of 24 credit hours per year, typically 6 – 4 credit courses per year, with a load reduction to direct and develop the program. The position focuses on teaching core EPH courses developing and directing the program. Course assignments are based upon expertise and needs of the degree programs. Responsibilities also include mentorship and advising for students. All faculty are encouraged to develop scholarship or creative work in their chosen field. Faculty are expected to participate in outcomes assessment, curriculum development, university committees, as well as other service to the university and broader community.
RANK AND SALARY:Assistant or Associate Professor salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience, and is prescribed by a university-wide salary range. APU is a non-tenure college; faculty are eligible for multi-year appointments after initial contracts.

QUALIFICATIONS:Earned advanced degree in environmental health or related field is required at time of appointment; doctorate preferred. Experience working with tribes and in Alaska's rural environment is preferred. Adequate environmental health related practical experience is required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate expertise in core competency areas related to scientific inquiry and public health. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate expertise in both teaching and mentoring and will have experience with university program and curriculum development.
