$115,825.00/yr - $143,454.00/yr
Job Summary
The Manager, Safety maintains the development of the safety program, evaluates work environments for hazards, recommends control measures, develops training, and assesses compliance with regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement safety, health, and incident prevention programs for compliance.
- Manage and improve safety programs.
- Partner with management to develop and assess safety initiatives.
- Provide safety consultation and solutions to staff.
- Conduct safety inspections, hazard assessments, and report findings.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations through site visits and audits.
- Support high-risk activities with appropriate risk controls.
- Facilitate hazard assessments and safety analyses.
- Determine resources and develop safety budgets.
- Assist in accident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Interface with regulatory agencies on safety compliance.
- Lead safety projects and manage contractors.
- Recommend safety policy updates based on legislation and technology.
- Evaluate and recommend PPE.
- Maintain safety records and reports.
- Develop and implement emergency evacuation plans.
- Conduct electrical safety demonstrations and training.
- Manage PPE hazard assessments and safety evaluations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Relationships
Internal: Manager, HSE; Department Managers.
External: Regulatory agencies, community organizations, safety associations, and emergency services.
Competencies
- Knowledge of OSHA, AKOSH, DOT regulations, and safety standards.
- Ability to interpret standards and resolve compliance issues.
- Knowledge of electrical safety and equipment.
- Effective communication and training skills.
- Physical ability to perform safety tasks, including lifting and climbing.
- Ability to pass respiratory fit testing.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises the Safety Specialist.
Work Environment
Combination of office and fieldwork, including exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and travel to remote sites.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's in safety, science, engineering, or related field.
Certifications: Valid Alaska driver's license; CSP or CIH certification within one year.
Experience: 5 years in safety roles, including supervisory experience and incident investigations; utility/union experience preferred.
