STAFF ACCOUNTANT

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate records of the general ledger, performing regular reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The incumbent interacts with both internal and external customers and collaborators and reports to the Assistant Controller, who provides oversight and guidance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare and post journal entries related to various balance sheet accounts, as assigned.
  2. Perform monthly reconciliations, including investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
  3. Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and relevant accounting standards.
  4. Complete regular month-end checklists according to timeline.
  5. Prepare schedules for year-end financial audits and assist with audit completion.
  6. Coordinate with other departments to ensure accurate recording of company activity.
  7. Support management in developing and implementing process improvements for assigned areas.
  8. Cross-train and serve as backup for transactional responsibilities including accounts payable, receivable, cash management, and timekeeping.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field. Substitutions may be considered; two years of experience equals one year of higher education.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and computerized accounting systems.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills.
  • Ability to process high volumes of data accurately and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in managing accounting figures and financial records.
  • Attention to detail and ability to review complex transactions.
  • Expertise in computerized accounting systems and adaptability to new software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Clear and concise report and correspondence writing skills.
  • Understanding of company procedures, contracts, and confidentiality of data.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, accounting software, and databases.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or similar software modules for inventory and fixed assets.
