Mechanical / Piping Engineering Section Chief

LOCATION: Anchorage, AK

FSLA: Exempt

Summary

The Mechanical/Piping Engineering Section Chief is responsible for supervising and directing a team of 20-40 engineers and designers. This role involves providing qualified staff, technological expertise, tools, procedures, and technical stewardship to deliver projects and services effectively.

Responsibilities

  1. Represent and embody Company Core Values and Code of Conduct to staff, clients, and the community.
  2. Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Mechanical/Piping section.
  3. Collaborate with the Manager of Engineering, other Engineering Department leadership, staff, Senior Management, and other departments to meet Company objectives.
  4. Develop, review, and recommend policies, procedures, and practices to support Engineering Department goals.
  5. Lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  6. Ensure technical integrity and quality of deliverables.
  7. Support staff training, development, and mentoring.
  8. Guide quality reviews by Responsible Members.
  9. Periodically review and update discipline engineering procedures in coordination with the Manager of Engineering and Professional Engineers.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  1. Manage the organization of the engineering discipline within the department.
  2. Develop engineering leadership succession plans and delegate responsibilities.
  3. Address issues by consulting with the Manager of Engineering.
  4. Ensure discipline compliance with procedures and policies.
  5. Manage staffing levels and update staffing plans accordingly.
  6. Recommend hiring and disciplinary actions for approval.
  7. Review and recommend staff compensation adjustments.
  8. Oversee timesheet approvals, ensuring overtime is pre-approved.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited institution, with at least ten years of experience in delivering engineering projects similar to those of the Company.
  • Minimum three years of experience as a discipline lead or project engineer supervising relevant staff in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Current Alaska Professional Engineer license.
  • At least 15 years of industry-related experience supported by the Company.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
