Role Description

UMIAQ Environmental is hiring an Environmental Scientist/Geologist/Chemist to manage environmental projects from inception to completion, ensuring technical and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental site assessments, sampling, regulatory compliance, and project management. Strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and teamwork are essential.

UMIAQ Environmental, LLC, a subsidiary of UIC Commercial Services, provides environmental consulting services including NEPA compliance, permitting, site assessments, stakeholder engagement, contamination remediation, hazardous waste management, wetlands monitoring, and more. Our team has extensive experience across Alaska.

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I and II) and remediation projects.
  2. Perform sampling of soil, water, air, waste, and interpret results.
  3. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  4. Prepare technical reports, work plans, and regulatory submissions.
  5. Manage and analyze environmental data using GIS and databases.
  6. Oversee subcontractors and field operations, ensuring safety and project completion.
  7. Support permitting and environmental impact assessments.
  8. Collaborate with teams, clients, and agencies to develop solutions.
  9. Participate in business development, proposals, and client engagement.
  10. Stay updated on industry trends and regulations.
  11. Travel and perform fieldwork, with hours exceeding 40/week, including weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of environmental consulting, site assessment, or remediation experience.
  • Knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA regulations.
  • Experience with analytical methods and data interpretation.
  • Proficiency in GIS, databases, or modeling is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, in field and office environments.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Meet Alaska DEC Qualified Environmental Professional requirements.

Preferred Experience and Training:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training
  • OSHA 30-hour Safety Training
  • DOT HAZMAT Training
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Waste characterization and hazardous waste management experience
  • EPA Risk Assessment training
  • Soil Classification & Logging Training (USCS, ASTM)
