Corps/Department: Salvation Army Clitheroe Center

Reports To: Residential Clinical Manager

FLSA Status: Full Time/40 hours per week; Non-Exempt

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human services preferred. Alaska Certification CDC I, or five years' experience in the field of substance abuse/or related field or an AA degree and two years' experience, may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of two years of experience preferred in direct service delivery in the field of substance abuse treatment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain Alaska State CDCI Certification within one year from the date of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain Alaska State CDCII Certification within three years from the date of hire, failure to do so may be grounds for termination.

Scope of Position/Essential Functions

Under the supervision of the Assistant Clinical Manager and Residential Clinical Manager, Counselor I supports clients with substance abuse issues, helping them develop skills for a sober, emotionally stable life by managing the treatment process from admission to discharge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of cross-cultural issues and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of peer support, advocacy, and recovery support.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Acceptable criminal history, able to pass background check.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to facilitate various counseling sessions, case management, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and client assessment.
  • Proficient in computer use and willing to learn the electronic health records system Intergy EHR.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and work independently.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Provide crisis intervention services.
  • Develop and update treatment plans, monitor client progress, and coordinate with external agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality regulations and maintain accurate treatment records.
  • Participate in ongoing training and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift and Work Location

The programs operate 24/7; shifts and locations may change based on program needs, with prior notice.

Skills and Environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Intergy, and other software; moderate noise level; physical ability to perform duties; and understanding of the organization's religious mission are required.

Physical and Other Requirements

Must meet physical demands, have a valid driver's license, and be able to perform essential duties with accommodations if needed.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's in Human Services preferred.
